More ado about crochet

June 26th, 2009 by Ivy

In this episode, I talk about  my latest facination with crochet.  If you want to see my projects, they’re here, except the felted stuff which is here.  I review Hooked for Life: Adventures of a Crochet Zealot, and you can see more here.

Most importantly, I read your poems and draw a random winner.

Tour Guides in Hell

May 29th, 2009 by Ivy

I talk about the Inferno, both by Dante and by Pournelle and Niven.  I have a review of the Niven/Pournelle version up on SFSite.

Yarn clubs I’ve called out are the sock of the month at TheKnitter, Rams Club III, Annie’s Hook and Needle Club (I misnamed it Mary Maxim in the show), and Fiber Fetish.

Shavuot

May 22nd, 2009 by Ivy

I talked about Shavuot (which commemorates Mt. Sinai), laddering in socks, and how this article helped me understand Jesus’ teaching that the first law is love, and how that applies to gay marriage.

I gave a shout out to some new clubs from the Unique Sheep.

Summer Knitting

May 15th, 2009 by Ivy

In this episode, I talk about knitting for the summer.  I have a few project suggestions.

Socks, especially tabi socks, are fabulous.

Shawls are nice, and I suggested, for good, affordable cashmere, check out School Products.

Washclothes are great, and the Unique Sheep has a kit with a sheep washcloth, other washcloth kits, or a washcloth club.

Headbands are great, and a faster first project than scarves for new knitters.

Bags and cases are great, and I promised a link to my business card case pattern.

Hats and mittens for the coming winter.

Wrist warmers.

Jewelry, and a great source for kits is Earthfaire. Her bead soup bracelet is particularly cute.

Squares for Warm up America are nice to knit in the summer, offer a fast project with a variety of options, and they don’t bury you in wool.

Counting

May 8th, 2009 by Ivy

I discuss easy tricks to help your counting in knitting and the counting of the Omer.

I think I’m beating the argument that the first row is a row a bit to much but I blogged about it at here and I had a show about it here.  I promise, I’m done with this.

A joyous Shavout to you all.

Contest Winner

April 24th, 2009 by Ivy

I spoke of finishing my sloth hat, and how I found the patten to fit that perfect middle ground between wearable and intricate.  I enjoyed knitting it, and come next winter, I’m going to love wearing it.  There’s just something too cool about angora ear flaps.

I read all three entries in the angel story contest.  Jane  is our winner.  Shannon sent in a link to photos of her adorable children.  This was me being lazy and getting you guys to write the show. It worked so well, I’ll probably do it again.

Passover

April 3rd, 2009 by Ivy

In this episode I talk tech (sorry, that’s my day job).  I talk about Passover, and the persistent myth that the Jewish slaves built the pyramids.  I offer a yarn contest.  Send me angel stories that I can read on the show–your own or public domain.  You could win the Hobbitron sock kit.

Woolism

March 20th, 2009 by Ivy

I present, in an alternate universe where the First Amendment overrides everything else, the Church of Woolism.

Tenets of the Faith.

1- Sheep exist.
2- Sheep grant us wool.
3- Wool can be turned into yarn, which is good.
4- Yarn can be turned into garments, which is good.
5- Most of the time, wearing clothes is a good thing.

Because the government in this alternate reality cannot force us to do anything that is against our religion, here are the rules.

1- Woolists can’t pay any taxes.  It cuts into the yarn budget.
2- Woolists must have the tools of their craft at all times, including on airplanes.
3- Woolists can’t serve jury duty, because it is not our place to judge others.
4- Woolists must perform their craft when the yarn calls, often this will be during boring meetings.

Get silly with it.  What else does this faith command?
